The presiding Bishop for the Evangelical Orthodox Church (EOC) in Uganda, Jacinto Kibuuka has urged the security officers and the general public to respect human life and dignity especially at this time when the country is preparing to go polls on Thursday this week.
Bishop Kibuuka cautioned the security agents and public against getting so emotional to the extent of taking away other people’s lives or treating them in a degrading manner.
“We call upon the security officers to respect human dignity and life by not getting so emotional to the extent of killing, beating and teargasing everybody.
Most of the people you beat up and kill don’t have guns so respect them and handle them in a constitutional way since we all need peace, life and our Uganda. “Said Bishop Kibuuka
Bishop Kibuuka also pleaded to the general public to vote for the people of their choice in a peaceful manner to avoid any possibility of causing violence since everyone yearns for a peaceful and developing Uganda.
“I urge you to go and vote for the people of your own choice without being violent. Let’s not await for police or military to keep peace, we should be the first to do that.
Let’s be wise by being peaceful but critical then we see how the security will beat us and kill us. If they do then we shall hold them culpable.
We should all remember that it’s our money used to do infrastructure and so if we destroy it or burn it, it’s us losing, let’s not be so primitive to the extent of beating, killing or destroying properties of those we don’t agree with politically or generally.” Said Bishop Kibuuka
Bishop further urged the Electoral commission to respect people’s choice by ensuring a free, just and fair election for the good of the country.
Bishop kibuuka made the above remarks while praying for the free, fair and just elections and for peace in the country on Sunday at Mamre International Prayer Centre in Namugongo, Janda, Wakiso district.
