Bobi Wine asks parliament to order for an immediate release of his supporters and an audit in 2021 elections.

By Kabuye Ronald

The National Unity Platform (NUP) president and a runner up in the just concluded general elections Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has asked parliament to order for unconditional and immediate release of the abducted people and political prisoners in additional to an election audit.

“I once again request this Parliament to order for the immediate release of the abducted people and all the political prisoners. Ugandans are demanding that security agencies return our People dead or alive and stop trying civilians in militarily courts. ” Bobi wine told parliament

Bobi wine said though he knows that parliament’s resolutions may be ignored but they must go on record to have fought for people’s freedom.

“I know that they may ignore any resolution made by this Parliament just like they have done before. But let this Parliament be on record and assure the mothers, fathers, wives, daughters, and sons of this nation that it cares about their loved ones.” said Bobi Wine

Bobi wine claims that government institutions have been reduced to the interest of one person as opposed to people.

“Madam Speaker, I decided to petition the Supreme Court, but because of the clear bias that was manifested from the onset, I decided to withdraw the Petition from the supreme court and take these matters back to the people of Uganda.

Government institutions have been reduced to serving the interests of an individual instead of serving the people. This Parliament therefore has an opportunity to redeem its image and show that it can stand with the people.” Bobi Wine said

Bobi Wine asserted that the people who have been lucky to return have spoken of being subjected to unspeakable torture and brutality while in detention! Including some to have been castrated,  others had their eyes and finger nails plucked out, their limbs broken and they have been subjected to advanced forms of torture like water boarding and electrocution while several women were raped in detention.

Bobi wine also questioned why the laws of the country are no longer respected.

“We wonder if we still have a Constitution in this country. What happened to the requirement to have arrested persons presented before courts of law within 48 hours?

What happened to the prohibition against torture, which is a non-derogable right? Why are civilians being tried by military courts? Why are they charged in the absence of their lawyers and relatives, Madam Speaker? “He questioned.

Bobi Wine also demanded for an audit into the election of January 2021.

In her response, Speaker Kadaga told Bobi Wine that the matter is before the parliament’s Human Rights committee.
