The Retired justice of the Supreme Court, Professor George W. Kanyeihamba has revealed how the Minister for internal affairs Rtd. Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire stole his medical fees and defaulted his legal fee in the controversial cases he represented him.
Justice Kanyeihamba made the revelation on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, during the morning online show of the Alternative DigiTalk that airs live on Facebook.

In this show that was hosted by the Alternative executive director Norman Tuhimbise, Justice Kanyeihamba made it very clear that the Minister stole his 10 million given to him by government for medication and 100 million legal fee in all the cases he represented him. He was also quick to add that what he said can be attested to by the former Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, prof. Bazirante and Otafiire himself since he acknowledges the debt but says he doesn’t have the money yet.
The learned retired judge said that he is donating that money to the foundation which is advocating for sustaining truth, transparency and accountability to help any Ugandan including president Museveni who he claimed doesn’t believe in the same core values.
“I represented Otafiire for a long time, he was supposed to pay me regularly my retainer fee, I represented him on a number of very controversial projects, he has never paid me a penny and he admits that I owe him an equivalent of 100 million shillings. Then when he was a minister of justice and constitutional affairs he made government to pay the in check an equivalent of 10 million shillings to me to take me for medical treatment in the hospital, people assumed I was going to die I was one of them, he took the money personally and used it and he admits, even if you call him now from here. If you want to further prove ask Ruhakana Rugunda, prof. Bazirante at Kyambogo and the then permanent secretary to the judiciary they know all this.” Said Prof. Kanyeihamba.
Giving his reasons for opening up on the matter, Prof. Kanyeihamba said he has struggled for 10 years to get his money thus it’s high time the public needs to know and he gets this money not for his own benefit but for the foundation which advocates for building of trust, truth, justice, transparency and accountability.
He further emphasized that he will never apologize for making the matter public, before threatening that if Otafiire doesn’t pay him within a short time then many people will reveal the dirty they know about him.
