Election Petition: Dr. Ndiwalana declared duly elected Mp for Bukomansimbi North

By Kabuye Ronald

Court of appeal has quashed the ruling of the Masaka High Court and declared National Unity platform’s Dr. Christine Nandagire Ndiwalana as the duly elected Member of Parliament for Bukomansimbi North.

Masaka high court judge Ketra Katunguka had nullified Ndiwalana’s victory on grounds that she did not possess the minimum required academic qualifications to stand as a member of parliament thus she was illegally nominated.

The Masaka High Court also ordered the electoral commission to organize fresh elections.

The above followed a petition from her political rival National Resistance Movement Candidate Ruth Katushabe, however court of appeal has stepped aside the high court decision and declared Ndiwalana the duly elected MP for Bukomansimbi North.

The three justices of the court of appeal namely; Geofrey Kiryabwire, Stephen Musota and Christopher Gashirabake unanimously overturned the Masaka high court decision after they found out that Dr. Ndiwalana possessed required academic qualifications. But the Court made no order for cost,

Dr. Ndiwalana attributed her victory to the Almighty God who has relieved her of the pressure and stress she has been going through.

She also thanked her supporters for standing by her through the trying moments.
