Joel Ssenyonyi Retained as LoP as Mwiru, Nambeshe, Nakwedde Land Key Roles In Parliament

Nakawa West Member of Parliament Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi has been retained as the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Parliament following the unveiling of a new Opposition shadow cabinet.

The newly announced line-up also sees Hon. John Baptist Nambeshe appointed Parliamentary Commissioner, while Jinja South Division East MP Hon. Paul Mwiru has been named the Opposition Chief Whip. He will be deputised by Kayunga Woman MP Hon. Harriet Nakwedde.

Several other opposition legislators were also appointed to key parliamentary oversight and representative positions.

New Appointments

  1. Chairperson, Public Accounts Committee (PAC) – Hon. Patrick Nsamba Oshabe (Kassanda County North)
  2. Vice Chairperson, Public Accounts Committee – Hon. Sarah Lwansasula (Jinja City Woman Representative)
  3. Chairperson, COSASE – Hon. Nkunyingi Muwadda (Kyadondo County East)
  4. Vice Chairperson, COSASE – Hon. George Musisi (Kira Municipality)
  5. Chairperson, Government Assurances Committee – Hon. Francis Zaake Butebi (Mityana Municipality)
  6. Vice Chairperson, Government Assurances Committee – Hon. Anna Adeke Ebaju (Soroti District Woman Representative)
  7. Chairperson, Local Government Accounts Committee – Hon. Betty Nambooze Bakireke (Mukono Municipality)
  8. Vice Chairperson, Local Government Accounts Committee – Hon. Abed Nasser Mudiobole (Iganga Municipality)
  9. Pan-African Parliament Representative – Hon. David Lukyamuzi Kalwanga (Busujju County)
  10. Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Representative – Hon. Fortunate Rose Nantongo (Kyotera District Woman Representative)
  11. Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States Representative – Hon. Hassan Kirumira (Katikamu County South)
  12. Inter-Parliamentary Union Representative – Hon. Brenda Nabukenya (Luwero District Woman Representative)
  13. Parliamentary Pension Scheme Representative – Hon. Abubakar Kawalya (Lubaga North)
  14. Caribbean-EU Parliamentary Assembly Representative – Hon. Joan Namutaawe (Masaka District Woman Representative)

The reshuffle is expected to strengthen the Opposition’s oversight role and coordination in Parliament ahead of key legislative business.
