The Kampala Lord mayor Erias Lukwago has dragged new vision newspaper to the civil division of the high court over defamatory statements.
On 4th January 2023 New vision published an allegedly false and defamatory headline ” Gen.Saleh speaks out on Lukwago Links” on the front page and a statement titled Gen.saleh speaks out on Lord mayor Lukwago on page 6 which included quoting ephesians 2:12-18.
Gen. Saleh who did not mention the kind of support he has been giving to Lukwago over time also emphasized that he had withdrawn all his support for Lukwagi’s fights until he tenders in an apology.
Lukwago through his law firm of Lukwago and company advocates has dragged New vision to asserting that he has never received any support from Gen.Saleh and he has no relationship with him. He thus contends that the publication was malicious and has damaged his credibility and reputation in the eyes of right thinking members of the society.
Lukwago now wants Newvision to pay him 100,000,000 million shillings for general damages.

He also wants court to issue a permanent injunction restraining the defendant from ever publishing any defamatory matter concerning him. He wants interests for exemplary demages and general damages at a state of 25% per annum from the date of judgement till he is fully paid.
He further wants court to order Newvision to publish an apology with equal publicity as the allegedly defamatory publication.
It should be recalled that the last time Lukwago is dragged new vision in court over publishing defamatory stories against him court ordered for his compensation of 120 million shillings.
