Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party has advised the government to be cautious on her decisive move OF reclaiming Oil imports in the country.
This follows the government’s decision of buying bulk suppliers fall directly on the shoulders of Uganda national oil company and its subsidiaries in oil refinery that are of a recent creation.
Addressing the press at Uganda People’s Congress headquarters in Kampala, the party’s spokesperson Sharon Arach Oyat said the move requires the capacity to deliver at a national level, which is not an easy undertaking and thus the line ministries of Finance and Energy which are the key stakeholders and Uganda National Oil Company have to be more focused and ready to steer the country forward which UPC says is such a huge task to them.
Sharon Arach expressed fear that anything sort of untimely delivery of fuel in the country is bound to plunge the economy in deep waters and yet recovery can be very much difficult.
“To a lay man, the cost of buying fuel directly from bulk suppliers is good economics and makes a lot of saving, but our challenge has been the capacity to deliver on government policies as our institutions are weak and have to grapple with challenges of personal interests and corruption.
UPC, therefore, advises government to be cautious on the move of reclaiming oil imports.” Said Arach
UPC on their National wide mobilization tour
Sharon Arach also said UPC Party President who is also the Lira City East Division Member of Parliament Hon. Jimmy Akena in company of the Secretary General Hon. Fred Ebil held a very successful mobilization tour in Amolatar District on 4th November 2023.
She said the tour followed the Party President’s massive launch of UPC nationwide mobilization tours held in Apac District at Boma Grounds on 8th September 2023.
“These mobilization tours are informing people the task that lies ahead of us as well as amplifying our mobilization efforts in readiness for 2025/2026 General elections which calls for members to execute their duties appropriately.
The President, Hon. Jimmy Akena will be holding these mobilization tours in different parts of the country and such schedules will be communicated accordingly. UPC is ready to offer leadership and service which the people of the Republic of Uganda deserve.” Said Sharon
