Labour College of East Africa lights up NOTU Youth Camp 2024.

The Annual Youth Camp organized by NOTU has drawn huge numbers from 38 affiliate unions. The Five day event which concludes tomorrow has seen youths take part in training sessions aimed at equipping them with vital knowledge in union matters and the labour movement in general.

The Annual camp is taking place at Devine University in Fortportal, Kabarole District.

One outstanding institute in handling all these key aspects is; Labour College of East Africa. Founded by Worker’s Member of Parliament, Hon.Arinaitwe Rwakajara and primed for quality education in Labour issues and workers’ rights, the high class institute selected a team of students to represent it at this year’s camp.

Muhangi Payson, the Guild President is positive about the ongoing camp due to the knowledge thats being shared.

“It gives me much joy that a lot of knowledge is being shared by the members regarding the trade union movement. The impact of the youths on unionism is critical, asserts Payson.

To Phina Mugerwa A.K.A Masanyalaze,a popular Ugandan artist, said the training has provided a yardstick for the youths to engage with the experts on labour issues in the country.

“Honestly, this training has acquainted me with the knowledge to further my understanding on labour issues, added Phina”.

“As a matter of fact credit goes to Labour College of East Africa for offering full bursaries to unions, notes Phina”.

The Director of Operations, Mugabe Moses revealed at the camp that the institute won’t stop offering bursaries to union members and a new offer for next year is ongoing at the Namuwongo Campus.

With the camp providing an opportunity for the youths to network, the facilitators have done and still doing their best to impart knowledge on areas of social protection, Labour laws, development partners, climate change and financial literacy.
