The official handover of the Commissioner for Human Resource Management role at the Ministry of Local Government took place yesterday, with Hajjati Sharifa Buzeki, the Executive Director of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), passing the baton to Mr. Kahandi Nelson. The event marked the conclusion of Hajjati Buzeki’s tenure in the Ministry, where she made significant strides in human resource management.

In her farewell remarks, Hajjati Buzeki expressed deep gratitude to the Ministry for its unwavering support, care, and encouragement during her time as Commissioner. “It is by God’s will that the city I now head mirrors the very things we experience here, and I would have missed something crucial if I hadn’t had the opportunity to serve in the Ministry of Local Government,” she said, reflecting on the lessons learned and the growth she experienced in the role.

Mr. Kahandi Nelson, who has spent three years at the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, acknowledged the weight of the responsibility he was about to shoulder. “I am stepping into big shoes, but I assure you I will live up to the task. I will successfully carry on from where you have stopped,” he remarked, conveying confidence in his ability to continue the positive work started by Hajjati Buzeki.

The handover ceremony was officiated by Acting Permanent Secretary Hajji Sewante Khalifan, who praised Hajjati Buzeki’s remarkable contributions, particularly the implementation of the Balanced Scorecard system. The system is now a key tool in evaluating the performance of civil servants. Hajji Sewante emphasized that the Ministry would continue to implement the valuable policies introduced by Buzeki, ensuring the legacy of her work endures.

In the spirit of collaboration, the Under Secretary of the Ministry extended a warm welcome to Mr. Kahandi, assuring him that the Ministry of Local Government remains a supportive environment, with dedicated members ready to assist him in his new role.
