In folklore stories, there was always that mysterious invisible being or Genie that helped those that sought its help.
Fast forward today a group of nine youthful men, martin Kagoro, Peter Serugo, Reagan Ssentongo, Moses Tumwine, Khalifa Labeeb, Alex Wakamala, Martins Kagolo, Israel Wasswa, Jamil Mwanda, and Aggrey Kinene are charged with giving false testimony to police by accusing pastor Robert Kayanja of sodomy, conspiracy to defeat justice, committing a felony, criminal trespass, and giving false information to the police.
It is alleged that Serugo, Ssentongo, Khalifa, Wakamala, and Kagoro, while employed as police officers, intentionally gave false information to Detective IP Cotilda Nandutu, falsely claiming that Pastor Kayanja had committed unnatural offenses against them.
However, as they faced these charges and were brought before the court that later proved they had a case to answer, there seemed to be mysterious being orchestrating their defence. From hiring for them lawyers, helping them in their bail applications to as far as coaching them on what to say before Court.
Time and again, the 5-man team of lawyers played delaying tactics soon after the court pronounced its judgment that the accused had a case to answer.
Now, sources reveal that the delaying tactics were part of a well scripted plan to coach the accused on what to say while defending themselves. Tarnish the name of Pastor Kayanja at all costs, albeit swearing an oath.
One wonders how such youth who were merely farm hands could afford a legal team of seasoned lawyers like Humprey Tumwesigye, Davis Wesely, Robert Ojambo and Bernard Mugenyi but that’s where the invisible hand comes into play.
Surely, the above lawyers can’t defend the accused pro bono, and thus, the question arises what exactly does the person behind all this hope to achieve. It must be recalled that during one of the court proceedings, a phone matrix was submitted which showed that the accused were constantly in touch with the likes of Pastor Jackson Ssenyonga and Bishop Kiganda though mostly in touch with the former through his assistant Aggrey Kinene, who is one of the accused.
Israel Waiswa, another key player in the whole saga, was head of security of Pastor Sseyonga, and moreso, according to sources, the bills of the lawyers are being footed by the Bwayise based Pastor.
Question Therefore is he the invisible hand behind the plot to tarnish the image of Pastor Kayanja, and if so, what does he hope to achieve.
Remember when two of the accused Reagan Ssentongo and Khalifa Labeeb beat up resident in Kiryandogo where they worked at the farm of Pastor Kayanja , it was him who sent a team of lawyers to try and post bail for them
In earlier testimony in October 2024, Pastor Robert Kayanja told the court that the nine individuals had falsely accused him of sodomy. He alleged a conspiracy to frame him.
As the first of the nine suspects began their defense, Martin Kagoro refused to testify under oath, one wonders that if really he is sure that his testimony is the truth then why fear to give it under oath and later face a cross examination. As he testified, he narrated how he was allegedly sodomized and later paid, and as he did so, he shed tears albeit crocodile
