Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the Member of Parliament for Budadiri West, Secretary General FDC and a prominent opposition figure, has today been officially nominated as the presidential flagbearer for the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), becoming the fourth candidate to be duly nominated for Uganda’s 2026 general elections.

The nomination ceremony took place at the Electoral Commission headquarters in Lweza along Entebbe Road, where Mafabi was accompanied by party officials, supporters, and his campaign team.
In his post-nomination address to the press, Nandala Mafabi outlined his core campaign agenda revitalizing Uganda’s struggling economy and tackling poverty head-on.

“I am standing to fix the economy,” he declared. “When President Museveni came to power, he said his goal was to fix security. That has been achieved. Now, I am here to fix poverty.”
Mafabi, who has previously served as Chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee and is widely known for his strong stance on accountability, emphasized that his leadership will focus on equitable economic growth that empowers ordinary Ugandans.

He also pledged to reinvigorate Uganda’s cooperative movement, a sector he has been deeply involved with as a strategy to uplift communities and improve livelihoods across the country.
“I come with experience in the cooperative world, and I will ensure that cooperative societies function effectively,” Mafabi said, pointing to his leadership background in Uganda’s cooperative institutions.
In addition to economic reforms, the FDC candidate promised to restore democratic governance and strengthen institutions, positioning himself as the candidate of reform and renewal in the post-Museveni era.
With this nomination, Nandala Mafabi officially joins the 2026 presidential race, setting the stage for a high-stakes contest that is expected to shape the future of Uganda’s political and economic landscape.
