Police in Luwero District have launched investigations into the mob killing of a 38-year-old man accused of cattle and car theft.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening in Nkonge Village, Katikamu Sub-county, Luwero District.
According to Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson Sam Twineamazima, the deceased has been identified as Henry Ssenkindu, a resident of Gulama Village. He was reportedly intercepted and set ablaze by a mob along with a vehicle after an alarm was raised over an ongoing theft.
Eyewitnesses say Ssenkindu was driving a white Toyota Premio registration number UBD 290M, which had earlier been reported stolen from Kasana. It is believed that he was tracked from Kakoola Village, Bamunanika Sub-county, following allegations of cattle theft.
Twineamazima noted that the deceased was a notorious theft suspect with several pending court cases related to vehicle and cattle theft across Luwero District.
Both Ssenkindu and the vehicle were burnt beyond recognition at the scene. Police have since registered cases of murder and malicious damage to property. Detectives visited the scene, recorded witness statements, and transported the remains of the deceased to Luwero Hospital in Kasana for postmortem examination.
Twineamazima urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to always report suspected criminals to the authorities for proper legal action.
