Museveni Urges Kiruhura Residents to Diversify Wealth Creation as He Highlights NRM Achievements

By Jumah Kakomo and Kabuye Ronald

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has applauded the people of Kiruhura District and the wider cattle corridor for their commitment to wealth creation through cattle rearing and dairy production, while urging them to diversify their enterprises for greater economic gains.

Addressing supporters during an NRM presidential campaign rally in Kiruhura District, President Museveni noted that efforts towards socioeconomic transformation—particularly commercial agriculture and production—have significantly paid off in Kiruhura, Kazo, Ssembabule, and other districts within the cattle corridor. He rallied residents to intensify their productivity and adopt additional profitable ventures.

Museveni guided the people of Kiruhura on practical diversification strategies, emphasizing that wealth creation can be amplified when households explore multiple enterprises beyond livestock. He reported that the NRM’s wealth creation initiatives have led to a notable reduction in the number of Ugandans living in subsistence, citing improved poverty alleviation trends.

The NRM presidential candidate urged residents to fully utilize government socioeconomic empowerment funds—including the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, Youth Livelihood Programme, and Women Empowerment Fund—to boost household incomes and transition from subsistence to commercial production.

On emerging challenges, Museveni promised swift government intervention to address livestock diseases affecting the cattle corridor. He also encouraged the community to maximize land use profitably to sustain long-term development.

President Museveni further confirmed that more tarmac roads will be constructed in Kiruhura District, naming the Kiruhura–Kashonji–Ruhumba and Rushere–Kinoni–Nyabitanga roads as priority projects. However, he cautioned against non-prioritized development approaches, which he said often delay essential infrastructure.

He also pledged to establish a Health Centre III in Kayanja, the only sub-county in Kiruhura District lacking one, and highlighted progress made in the education sector under the NRM government. Museveni underscored the importance of free universal education as a job creation strategy, citing success stories from graduates of the Presidential Industrial Skilling Hubs.

Speaking on national development, the NRM candidate elaborated on the party’s industrialization plans aimed at creating jobs, bolstering the services sector, commercializing agriculture, and enhancing skills development. He emphasized that the NRM’s politics of unity has delivered peace, stability, and an environment conducive to socioeconomic growth.

Museveni concluded by outlining the seven core contributions of the NRM government that have propelled Uganda toward socioeconomic transformation. He called on the people of Kiruhura District to safeguard the progress achieved as the country advances toward attaining higher middle-income status.
