Four people have been confirmed dead following a fatal road crash that occurred on Wednesday morning at Matanga-Ndikutamadda along the Masaka–Kampala Highway.

The crash involved a Fuso box-body truck, registration number UBQ 238Q, and a Mercedes-Benz trailer, registration numbers CGO 9638AF/19 and CGO 6561AA/19.
According to preliminary police investigations, the trailer, which was being driven by Syaunswa Kanyamunyu (now deceased), was travelling from Masaka towards Kampala. Upon reaching Matanga Hill, the driver allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle before colliding head-on with the oncoming Fuso truck, which was travelling from Kampala towards Masaka.

The crash claimed the lives of four male adults, including the trailer driver and three occupants of the Fuso truck. One passenger who was travelling in the Fuso survived the crash and sustained injuries.
Greater Masaka Regional Police spokesperson Twaha Kasirye said the injured passenger, whose identity had not yet been established, was rushed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were also taken to the hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations.
Kasirye added that both wrecked vehicles were removed from the scene to allow the smooth flow of traffic along the highway.
Police have launched investigations into the crash. Preliminary findings indicate that careless overtaking by the trailer driver may have been the cause of the fatal collision.
