Care Well Foundation Donates 10 Sewing Machines To Teso Skilling Program

By Obbo Yusuf

Care Well Foundation, led by Director Shilpa Mendoca, has donated 10 modern sewing machines to the Teso Skilling Program as part of efforts to empower underprivileged people with practical skills.

The machines were handed over to support tailoring training under the programme initiated by Judith Home Care and Hope Foundation, which seeks to equip vulnerable communities across the Teso sub-region with non-formal skills that can help them become self-reliant.

The Teso Skilling Program is designed to take practical skills training closer to communities, particularly people who may not have had an opportunity to pursue formal vocational education.

Beneficiaries are being trained in various skills, including tailoring, catering, baking, construction, fabrication and chalk making, among others.

The donation of the 10 sewing machines is expected to strengthen the tailoring component of the programme by giving trainees access to modern equipment for hands-on training.

Speaking during the handover, Care Well Foundation Director Shilpa Mendoca said the foundation is committed to supporting initiatives that create opportunities for vulnerable communities to acquire skills and improve their livelihoods.

Organizers of the programme have welcomed the support, saying more equipment and partnerships are needed to reach additional communities across the Teso region.

The initiative comes at a time when skills development is increasingly being promoted as a pathway to employment, entrepreneurship and economic empowerment among disadvantaged communities.
