Security intensified at Busia border as Maj.Gen. Nabasa cautions against criminality

A joint team of UPDF and Police Officers has been heavily deployed heavily at the Busia border to curb criminality during this festival season along the porous border in Eastern Uganda.

Major Don Williams Nabasa the UPDF Commander of the third division says that they in Busia and elsewhere in Uganda to help police during and after this festival season since many people enjoy and forget that the enemy is there also planning to cause havoc.

Major Don Williams said “We have deployed together with Uganda Police to make sure that patrols are conducted during day and night hours such that Ugandans can enjoy the festival season however, we shall not entertain those that burn other people’s property and old tyres as a sign of ending and welcoming a new”

He added that as for now the situation is calm because there no serious cases so far reported but operations are still intensified.

Locals leaders like Ngolobe Juma Obandyo LC chairman Shamutumba village and Ojiambo Joseph chairperson Busia boda bodas association said that the deployment made by the UPDF Commander of the third division and on ground supervision has helped them so much because there has been a habit for thieves to steal and break into people’s homes and shops but this hasn’t happened yet thus they hope to enjoy festivities peacefully.

Didas Byaruhanga the District Police Commander for Busia said that around 70 persons were arrested in the night operations hence appealed to a parents to take good care of their children since they are now home.

He also appealed to the guardians, relatives and parents who come to Busia police station during the screening process of those who were arrested in the operation to have proper identification.

“Those who move at night should move with what identities them, we are to conduct night patrols to hunt out wrong elements who want to destabilize the peace of others ,and in the process we have cautioned parents to guide their children who are in holidays “

Some of the parents, guardians and relatives of the suspects we spoke to applaud the security for the operation despite arresting their people.
