Museveni Concludes Greater Mukono Campaign in Buikwe, Highlights Railway Progress, Jobs, and Wealth Creation

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has concluded his campaign trail in the Greater Mukono sub-region, assuring residents of steady progress on the railway as a cost-effective means of transporting goods and services to boost production.

Speaking at an NRM presidential campaign rally at Colony Grounds in Buikwe District, Museveni said the NRM government is advancing key interventions to propel economic growth, with a strong focus on infrastructure development to support investors and lower the cost of doing business.

Museveni reiterated his commitment to enacting a minimum wage law, noting that this will be implemented after completing critical infrastructural developments required to attract and sustain investment. He explained that government’s role is to create an enabling environment for investment, while investors must also meet their obligations, including providing decent pay for workers.

He urged residents of Buikwe District to take advantage of existing employment opportunities, particularly in manufacturing, which has expanded due to the establishment of several industries in the area. Museveni also outlined other job-creating sectors available to the community as government works toward improving wages.

Addressing concerns over land matters, Museveni directed the Attorney General to explain the legal safeguards protecting lawful tenants from eviction by unscrupulous landlords. He emphasized that the NRM government resolved the land tenure question by defining the various legal forms of land ownership and called on tenants to resist illegal evictions as provided for in the Constitution. He added that government plans to scale up compensation for landlords but insisted that they have no right to evict lawful tenants.

On wealth creation, Museveni rallied residents to embrace professional management of government funds and to closely monitor their disbursement at parish level. He said the government is determined to ensure all Ugandans benefit from wealth creation initiatives aimed at ending poverty and integrating citizens into the money economy. He urged all residents aged 18 years and above to actively participate in Parish Development Model (PDM) SACCO meetings to guide proper utilization of funds allocated to their parishes.

Museveni also confirmed that government will provide additional support funds to more sector groups, citing success stories from the PDM, Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), NAADS, and other interventions.

First Lady Maama Janet Kataha Museveni outlined the NRM’s strategic vision of building a stronger and more prosperous Uganda, noting that all party efforts are aligned to this goal.

Meanwhile, the NRM Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), Anita Among, raised concerns over absentee landlords contributing to evictions, as well as theft of PDM funds. The NRM Vice Chairperson for the Buganda Sub-region, Haruna Kasoro, affirmed unity within the party in Buikwe District, expressing confidence in an overwhelming NRM victory in the forthcoming general elections.

The NRM District Chairperson for Buikwe District, Diana Kankunda Mutasingwa, presented the district memorandum to the party leadership.
