Police Arrest Two Suspects After Daylight Robbery Of Forex Bureau

By Robert Segawa

Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested two suspects in connection with a violent robbery in which more than Shs45 million was stolen from two staff members of Riverside Forex Bureau.

The incident occurred on May 6, 2026, at around 11:30 a.m. at the traffic lights near Nsambya Sharing Hall Junction, a few metres from Arena Mall along Gaba Road in Makindye Division.

The robbery gained renewed public attention after video footage of the attack resurfaced on June 9, 2026, and began circulating widely on social media platforms.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the victims—a manager of Riverside Forex Bureau and his colleague—had left Bunga Trading Centre carrying USD 13,000 to be exchanged into Uganda shillings.

After successfully exchanging the money at a forex bureau along Kampala Road, the two were intercepted by assailants riding motorcycles at Nsambya. The attackers allegedly assaulted the victims before robbing them of the cash. The suspects were also seen kicking and intimidating onlookers who attempted to intervene.

Owoyesigyire said investigations led to the recovery of a motorcycle bearing registration number UMA 655GK. Police established that the motorcycle’s number plate had been forged to conceal the identity of the motorcycle used in the robbery.

The suspects have been identified as Kamoga Yuda, alias “Sparta,” and Kayabula Arnold, a boda boda rider. Police also recovered another motorcycle, registration number UMA 602KK, which is believed to be linked to the robbery.

The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to establish the extent of their involvement and to identify and arrest other accomplices.

“Kampala Metropolitan Police remain committed to ensuring that all individuals involved in this criminal act are apprehended and brought to justice,” Owoyesigyire said.

The two suspects are currently detained at Kabalagala Police Station pending further investigations.
