The Minister of Internal Affairs, Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, has pledged the government’s full support to the Uganda Police Force, particularly in strengthening crime prevention, improving the welfare of personnel, and enhancing career development.
Prof. Kamuntu made the commitment during his first official visit to the Uganda Police Headquarters in Naguru since his appointment as Minister of Internal Affairs by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Upon his arrival, the Minister was received by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abas Byakagaba, who led him on a tour of several key police facilities. These included the Directorate of ICT, the Field Force Unit (FFU), the Directorate of Forensic Services, the ICT National Command and Control Centre, the Counter-Terrorism Directorate, and the newly constructed accommodation blocks for police personnel at Naguru.
The Minister also met with the Uganda Police Force’s top management, comprising directors, heads of departments, commanders of specialized units, and the Kampala Metropolitan Police Command.
Speaking after the tour, Prof. Kamuntu expressed satisfaction with the developments he witnessed, particularly the investment in accommodation for police officers. He commended the police leadership for the progress made in improving the Force’s infrastructure and operational capacity.
“We came, we saw, and we have appreciated. I am pleased with what I have seen in the Uganda Police Force. If the Force is well-equipped, well-trained, and adequately facilitated, it can achieve the security aspirations of this country,” Prof. Kamuntu said.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the Uganda Police Force through enhanced crime prevention initiatives, improved welfare for officers, and timely promotions to boost career development.
In his remarks, Inspector General of Police Abas Byakagaba thanked the Minister for visiting the Police Headquarters and briefed him on the current state of the Uganda Police Force. He outlined the Force’s strategic priorities, key operational challenges, and the measures being implemented to improve service delivery and national security.
