Fr Kkonde Urges Parents to Strengthen Relationships with Children

By Elijah Khisa

The chaplain of St Peter’s Senior Secondary School Nsambya (SPENSAN), Rev. Fr. Wenceslaus Kkonde, has urged parents to strengthen their relationships with their children through open communication and frank discussions about issues affecting families.

Fr Kkonde said some parents had neglected their parenting responsibilities, contributing to domestic violence and declining moral standards within households.

He called on parents to create more opportunities for communication with their children to help them navigate life’s challenges and promote stable families.

He made the remarks on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, during a Mass for the school’s 406 Senior Four candidates.

Fr Kkonde cautioned students against behaviours such as homosexuality, exposure to pornographic content, alcoholism and drug abuse, warning that such conduct could have devastating consequences for their future.

He encouraged the candidates to take personal responsibility for their actions and reflect on the long-term consequences of their decisions.

The chaplain also congratulated the parents and school administration for working together to provide holistic education to the students preparing for their final examinations. He wished the candidates success in their forthcoming examinations.

The school headmistress, Elizabeth Asiimwe Kyaragaire, outlined the various activities the students had participated in, including national and continental inter-school competitions in different professional fields.

She said teachers had done their best to equip the students with essential skills, including career guidance, entrepreneurship, lessons from the Apostolate Movement aimed at nurturing Catholic Christian values, and general discipline.

“Having served in this school 14 years ago, starting as a humble classroom teacher and growing through the ranks to become headmistress was not an easy task. However, I had to recommit myself to serving God and my country, a path you should emulate,” she said.

The deputy headteacher, Simon Peter Ssekasanvu, thanked the school board for providing the technical and logistical support needed to enable the administration to fulfil its responsibilities.

He also commended parents for meeting their obligations in providing the requirements needed by the school.

Ssekasanvu urged parents to strengthen their relationships with their sons and daughters during the holidays by engaging them in open and informal discussions about real-life challenges.

The candidates, in turn, acknowledged the important role played by their parents and teachers in shaping their character.

They pledged to maintain the discipline and apply the guidance and counselling they had received from their teachers as they prepared for the next stage of their education.
