NRM’s Anita Among massively elected speaker of parliament

National Resistance Movement NRM and Bukedea Woman MP Anita Annet Among has been elected the speaker of parliament to replace fallen speaker Jacob Oulanyah  who succumbed to cancer on Sunday in Seattle USA.

Anita who has been the deputy Speaker of Parliament garnered 401 votes against opposition backed candidate and also JEEMA president Asuman Basalirwa who garnered 66 votes.

Parliament on today Friday seat at Kololo Independence grounds and voted the next speaker of the 11th parliament for the next four years following the death of Jacob Oulanyah in a seating presided over by the Chief Justice Alphonse Owiny Dollo.

The seating was also informed by Article 82(4) of the Constitution of Uganda that stipulates that  no business shall be transacted in Parliament other than election to the office of Speaker at any time that office is vacant.
