VON Uganda lauds Iganga food market for feeding the needy

Food activists attached to von Uganda (village of the needy) have praised fresh food vendors in Iganga central market saying they have strongly contributed to saving lives of many hungry people around Busoga sub region.

“The central market has created smiles on many faces of hungry people in Iganga and Busoga at large. Many Families starving approach us for food, mostly when our stores are empty and we quickly rush to Iganga central market who give us a lot of food at zero shillings to take and save the hungry. Indeed these are our great heroes”

“Your great heroes in fighting hunger, we celebrate you because with you many lives have been saved”–village of the needy programs officer kyatte zahara praises Iganga central market food vendors 

Zahara says that Poor nutrition and hunger is responsible for the death of 3.1 million children annually and nearly half of all deaths are children under the age of 5. The children die because their bodies lack basic nutrients. 

She says they have to celebrate those who give them free food to save lives because according to worldcounts.com data it indicates that around the world over 9 million people die every year of hunger and hunger related diseases, this is more than from AIDS ,malaria and tuberculosis combined ,every 10 seconds there is a child who dies of hunger and Globally,822 million people suffer from undernourishment . “so if we raise food donation boxes  to collect food to respond to emergencies in our communities and such people respond to us quickly indeed they have to be celebrated for their kind hearts” says zahara kyate

The hope for the hungry respondents say “Everyone in the community can contribute towards fighting hunger ” meaning if people come together revise the love for one another ,no one will die of hunger.

Co-founder of von Uganda has expressed concern over people losing love for one another, “how can your neighbor die of hunger when you have plenty of food, you even cook in excess and throw aware left overs really, God does not allow this and we are here to promote that love, sensitizing the community about food security and fight food wastage”

Due to the need to reduce or stop hunger cases In Iganga district eastern Uganda, Von Uganda is assisting vulnerable households fight food insecurity, the community based organization that is located and operating in Iganga is supporting villages in financial literacy, livelihood programs, and food and nutrition assistance to address emergencies 

VON Uganda’ first donor points are food markets, where a team of volunteers from von Uganda collect yet to be wasted and excess food from these markets of which they run to donate to needy families, with this program thousands of underprivileged groups of people, children’s homes and Orphanages have benefited a lot.

Namutamba Robinah, a single mother with 5 orphans, a resident of Nampirika village in Nakalama Sub County has reached an extent of shading tears while revealing to us her story,

Namutamba said a number of times VON Uganda has been supporting her home with food aid 

“I fall sick and I was rushed to Busia for operation, I was diagnosed with strong ulcers, I left my grandchildren in the house alone with no food or any kind of support, it was not intentional but i I had nothing at that moment, my grandchildren became village beggars, in week two, these were saved by von uganda after an alarm from neighbors, I can’t stop thanking von Uganda’’ Robinah narrates while crying
