How a woman faked her kidnap to extort money from relatives

The Joint Task Team of police , UPDF, CMI, UWA, and ISO, have in custody a one Karungi Zainabu, a 32 year old, businesswoman of Railway cell, in Kasese Municipality, for self-kidnap, with the intention to extort money from her relatives and for giving false information to police.

According to police spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga, the suspect faked her kidnap on the 8.2.2024, and called her mother, claiming that she and another female victim, had been arrested by 8 armed men near Kikorongo within the Queen Elizabeth National Park, whereas not. She added, that they were demanding money in order to set her free. It was wrong for her, to misuse the image of the National Park.

Enanga said using advanced surveillance methods, the task team located her, at her hiding place in a room at Margherita Street in Kasese Municipality and arrested her.

She will be arraigned in court, today for giving false information to police and self-kidnap.
