DA Leadership Engages Electoral Commission on Key Election Issues Ahead of 2026 Polls

By Kabuye Ronald

The leadership of the Democratic Alliance (DA) held a critical engagement today with the Electoral Commission (EC) at the Commission’s headquarters in the Industrial Area, focusing on issues vital to the management of the upcoming 2026 elections.

The meeting, which covered a broad spectrum of concerns, was aimed at ensuring the electoral process remains transparent, fair, and inclusive. Speaking to the media after the discussions, Rt. Hon. Mathias Mpuuga, the Acting Leader of the DA, shared the party’s frustrations and fears as the country approaches the 2026 general elections. He revealed that several key topics were addressed, including the EC’s role in constituency demarcation, voter registration, and the management of the voters’ register.

Mpuuga also pointed out the court ruling that mandates the Electoral Commission to facilitate the participation of prisoners and Ugandans living in the diaspora in the upcoming elections, pending electoral reforms.

Julius Muchunguzi, the spokesperson for the Electoral Commission, expressed optimism following the meeting, calling it a constructive and essential dialogue in the lead-up to the elections. Both sides agreed on the need for further engagements in the near future to address additional concerns and fine-tune election preparations.

The ongoing discussions between the DA and the EC reflect a collaborative effort to ensure a credible and inclusive election process as Uganda prepares for the 2026 polls.
