FDC Unveils Musician Kalifah Aganaga as Flag Bearer for Kawempe North By-election

By Jumah Kakomo

The Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Party has officially unveiled Ugandan artiste Sadat Mukiibi, popularly known as Kalifah Aganaga, as its flag bearer for the upcoming by-election for the Kawempe North parliamentary seat. Aganaga will contest for the seat following the death of the former incumbent, Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya, who passed away in January after a prolonged illness.

The party also revealed Shafick Ssebunya as its candidate for the vacant Kazo Angola councillor position at Kawempe Division. This vacancy arose after the tragic car accident that claimed the life of the previous councillor.

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Uganda has set the by-election date for March 13, 2025, to fill both the Kawempe North parliamentary and Kazo Angola councillor positions.

Boniface Toterebuka, Chairman of the FDC Electoral Commission, emphasized the rigorous process involved in selecting Aganaga as their candidate for the Kawempe North seat. He assured that the selection process was fair and transparent, adhering strictly to the party’s protocols.

Toterebuka expressed confidence in Aganaga’s ability to represent the people of Kawempe North effectively. “We believe that Aganaga possesses the qualities and commitment needed to be a strong voice for the people of Kawempe North,” Toterebuka stated.

FDC President Patrick Oboi Amuriat also expressed optimism about Aganaga’s candidacy. He highlighted Aganaga’s passion for the party’s values and his potential to make a significant impact in parliament. Amuriat added that the party would work closely with Aganaga to mobilize voters and strengthen the party’s presence across the constituency.

In his address, Aganaga pledged his full dedication to serving FDC and the people of Kawempe North. “I am honored to be part of this great party, and I promise to serve FDC with all my heart and might,” Aganaga declared. “I will work tirelessly to promote the party’s values and to ensure that the voices of our people are heard loud and clear in Parliament.”

FDC Vice Chairman Franco Robert Centinary expressed his support for Aganaga’s candidacy, emphasizing that it reflects the party’s growing strength and appeal. “We are delighted to have Aganaga on board,” Centinary said. “His pledge is a testament to the dedication of our party members, and we are confident that he will be a valuable asset in building a stronger, more united FDC.”

The FDC now sets its sights on mobilizing support in the lead-up to the March 13 by-election, with Aganaga poised to represent a fresh perspective for the people of Kawempe North.
