IGP Posthumously Promotes Slain Officer Chemonges to Corporal Rank

By Robert Segawa The Inspector General of Police Abas Byakagaba has posthumously promoted no  75290 PC Chemonges Suleiman, aged 28 years police officer attached to Bisheshe police station in Ibanda District who was killed by mob to the rank of Corporal.

In the latest promotions  that left over 9000 police personnel benefited, the late PC Chemonges Suleiman was also promoted to the rank of Corporal .

PC Chemonges Suleiman was tragically killed by a mob on 6th April 2025,  while guarding the funeral of Kahangire Lazarus, an inmate who died at Nyabuhikye Government Ibanda District.

The incident unfolded in Kyembogo cell Kalangala parish Bisheshe division where mourners accused Chemonges of siding with wealthy local businessman Vincent Mbabazi who is also Kahangires Uncle.
Mbabazi allegedly had along standing land disputes with Kahangire’s family that spent over years in courts of law a feud many believed led to Kahangire’s imprisonment and eventual death.

During the scuffle the deceased fired warning shots to protect himself, but the mob overwhelmed and killed him without injuring anyone.
