Death Toll Rises to Eight in Kassanda Highway Crash Involving Taxi and Link Bus

The death toll from a fatal road accident that occurred last evening at Kyakatebe Village along the Mityana–Mubende highway in Kassanda District has risen to eight.

The crash involved a Toyota Hiace taxi, registration number UBQ 154R (commonly known as a drone), and an Isuzu bus, registration number UBE 535H, belonging to Link Bus Company.

According to preliminary police investigations, the accident occurred when the driver of the Toyota Hiace, who was traveling from Mityana toward Mubende, attempted to overtake another vehicle at Kyakatebe Village and collided head-on with the oncoming Isuzu bus.

SP Michael Kananula confirmed that six passengers died on the spot, while two others later succumbed to their injuries. All the deceased were occupants of the Toyota Hiace. Four other passengers from the same vehicle sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

In a related development, the Wamala Region Police Spokesperson, SSP Lameck Kigozi, identified the deceased as Vumilia Richard (65), Nankya Nita (34), Katusime Ester, a 15-year-old female juvenile, Tuswingire James (30), Atuhwire Phiona (39), Atugonza Janet, Ahura Rene (5), and Kabaitalya Christine (65). The bodies have been taken to Kiganda Health Centre IV for postmortem examinations.

SSP Kigozi further revealed that the driver of the Isuzu bus has been arrested and identified as Sulaiman Musota (55), a resident of Muduma in Mpigi District. Police are still searching for the driver of the Toyota Hiace, who fled the scene, as investigations into the accident continue.
