The journalism fraternity in the greater Mukono area has been thrown into deep sorrow following the passing of veteran journalist Mike Musisi Musoke, one of the region’s longest-serving media practitioners who dedicated his life to informing and serving Ugandans.
News of his death spread swiftly across media circles on Tuesday evening, leaving colleagues, friends, and community members in shock. Musoke had been working with Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) and the Kyagwe TV platform at the time of his death. Over a distinguished career spanning more than 40 years, he became a respected voice in journalism and a pillar of professionalism in the Mukono area and beyond.
Throughout his career, Musoke worked with several prominent media houses, including Uganda Television (UTV), WBS Television, Radio One, Daily Monitor, and New Vision. Colleagues describe him as a seasoned reporter whose commitment to ethical journalism and balanced reporting earned him widespread respect.
According to family members, Musoke’s health took a serious turn last Wednesday when he suffered complications related to high blood pressure and diabetes. He was rushed to Namirembe Church of Uganda Hospital, where he received medical attention. After showing signs of improvement, he was discharged on Thursday and returned to his home in Nsabwe.
However, on Tuesday evening, he reportedly complained of severe pain. As family members prepared to take him back to the hospital for urgent care, he breathed his last.
Henry Nsubuga, a veteran journalist and close associate of the deceased, expressed profound grief at the loss of his colleague and friend. He described Musoke as a committed professional who always prioritized truth and public interest in his reporting.
Nakate Joan, a journalist with New Vision, praised Musoke’s exemplary character and his unwavering dedication to mentoring young journalists. She noted that he took time to guide upcoming reporters on professionalism, field conduct, and the importance of integrity in journalism.
The President of Greater House Mukono Foundation and Bishop of Mt. Lebanon Christian Centre Cathedral in Mukono, Bishop Dr. Samuel Lwandasa, also paid tribute to the fallen journalist. He commended Musoke as a devoted servant who carried out his journalistic duties wholeheartedly while remaining deeply rooted in his faith and ministry. “We are greatly saddened by this loss,” he said, describing Musoke as a man who loved God and served diligently both in church and in the community.
On behalf of the family, the Member of Parliament-elect for Kira Municipality, George Musisi, announced the burial arrangements. Musoke will be laid to rest tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. in Maseke village, Nkokonjeru, Buikwe District. Prior to the burial, a prayer service will be held at Mt. Lebanon Christian Centre Cathedral in Mukono, where he had been serving faithfully.
As tributes continue to pour in, the greater Mukono journalism fraternity remembers Mike Musisi Musoke as a trailblazer, mentor, and steadfast advocate for responsible journalism. His passing marks the end of an era, but his legacy of dedication, integrity, and service to the Ugandan public will endure.
