The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, has urged the Ministry of Finance to consider reducing taxes on sanitary pads to make them more affordable for all girls and women.
She noted that the high cost of sanitary products contributes to school dropouts among girls, as many miss classes or leave school altogether due to fear of stigma during menstruation.

The Speaker made the remarks while addressing a Women’s Day breakfast meeting at Parliament in commemoration of International Women’s Day 2026. The event was held under the theme: “Scaling up investment to accelerate access to justice for all women and girls in Uganda.”
She emphasized that improving access to affordable sanitary products would help keep girls in school and promote dignity and equality for women and girls across the country.
