Parliament Director of Communications Chris Obore and six other senior parliamentary officials accused of embezzling and laundering Shs31.9 billion in public funds have been granted bail.
Obore was granted a cash bail of Shs30 million, with court ordering him to deposit his land title for property located in Kiwanga, Mukono District, as security. He was also required to surrender his passport.

His sureties were bonded at Shs300 million in non-cash security. Court warned that the property deposited as security could be forfeited if Obore violates any of the bail conditions.
The court also granted bail to his six co-accused, who are facing charges related to the alleged misuse of public funds.
Mureebe Muhanuka, Rajab Kaaya and Emmanuel Emuron Okwi were each granted a Shs20 million cash bond, while Daniel Adiro and Leonard Okema were each granted bail of Shs35 million. Vincent Tebata was granted a Shs30 million cash bond.

The seven officials were arrested on July 2, 2026, following investigations into allegations surrounding the embezzlement and laundering of Shs31.9 billion in public funds.
They were subsequently charged with embezzlement, money laundering and other related offences.
The case has also resulted in administrative action within Parliament, with the officials being interdicted following a directive by the Inspector General of Government (IGG), Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala.
The accused remain subject to the court process and are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
