Quran Recitation and Memorization Skills to Shine in Uganda’s National Quran Competition

By Jumah Kakomo

In a bid to promote Islamic knowledge and excellence, the Iraji Foundation, in partnership with Biggie Events, is organizing a national Quran competition. The event, which promises to be a thrilling showcase of Quranic recitation and memorization skills, is expected to attract participants from all over the country.

The competition, scheduled to take place on 23rd/02/2025, at Kampala Serena Hotel, will feature various categories, including Quran recitation, memorization, and interpretation. Participants will be judged on their accuracy, fluency, and overall understanding of the Quran.

According to the organizers, the national Quran competition aims to achieve several objectives. Firstly, it seeks to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Quran among Muslims in Uganda. Secondly, it aims to identify and nurture young talent in Quranic recitation and memorization. Finally, the competition hopes to foster a sense of community and unity among Muslims in Uganda.

Sheikh Shafick Mafu, a respected Islamic scholar and leader, has urged all Muslims to always embrace the knowledge and teachings of Islam, emphasizing the importance of seeking knowledge and living according to the principles of Islam.

“My dear brothers and sisters in Islam,” Sheikh Mafu began, “it is our duty as Muslims to seek knowledge and to live according to the teachings of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Islam is a way of life, and it is our responsibility to embody its values and principles in all aspects of our lives.”

Sheikh Mafu reminded the Muslims that the Quran and the Hadith (the sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad) are the primary sources of guidance for Muslims. He encouraged them to read and study the Quran regularly and to seek knowledge from authentic sources.

“Knowledge is the key to understanding and living Islam,” Sheikh Mafu emphasized. “We must strive to acquire knowledge and to apply it in our daily lives. We must also be mindful of the sources of our knowledge and ensure that they are authentic and trustworthy.”

Sheikh Ntala Bashir, one of the adjucators of the competitions, called upon Muslim politicians to financially support Quran competitions in Uganda, emphasizing the importance of promoting Quranic knowledge and excellence among Muslims.

“Quran competitions are an excellent way to encourage our youth to memorize and understand the Quran,” Sheikh Bashir said. “However, organizing such events requires significant financial resources. I urge our Muslim politicians to support these initiatives and contribute to the development of our future generations.”

Mariam Mutakubwa, the Managing Director of Biggie Events, a leading events management company in Uganda, has explained why her company decided to organize the National Quran Competition.

According to Mutakubwa, the idea to organize the competition was born out of a desire to promote Islamic values and education among Muslims in Uganda. “As a Muslim myself, I believe that the Quran is the foundation of our faith, and it’s essential that we encourage our youth to learn and understand its teachings,” she said.

Mutakubwa noted that the National Quran Competition is designed to bring together Muslims from all over the country to compete in Quran recitation, memorization, and interpretation. “We want to create a platform where Muslims can showcase their knowledge and skills in Quran recitation and interpretation, and also learn from each other,” she explained.

She also emphasized that the competition is not just about winning prizes but also about promoting unity and solidarity among Muslims. “We believe that by coming together to celebrate our faith and culture, we can build stronger relationships and a more cohesive community,” she said.

Mutakubwa revealed that Biggie Events has partnered with several Muslim organizations and institutions to make the National Quran Competition a success. “We have a strong team of organizers and volunteers who are working tirelessly to ensure that the competition is well-organized and enjoyable for all participants,” she said.

Overall, Mariam Mutakubwa and her team at Biggie Events are committed to making the National Quran Competition a success and to promoting Islamic values and education among Muslims in Uganda.

Success Motors and general trading company has gifted 2 (two) Toyota vehicles to the winners of the competitions.
