NETA Unveils Nominees for National Quality Awards, Urges Gov’t to Expedite Compensation of Flood-Hit Traders

By Kabuye Ronald

The National Entrepreneur and Traders Association (NETA–Uganda), a national umbrella body that brings together traders, entrepreneurs, and businesspeople across the country to promote responsible business practices, economic empowerment, and compliance with national policies and tax obligations, has unveiled the list of organisations nominated for this year’s National Quality Awards.
The announcement was made on Wednesday at NETA’s head offices in Kampala.

Addressing the press, NETA–Uganda National Chairman Dr. Thadeus Musoke Nagenda said the awards ceremony will take place on December 3, 2025, at the UMA Multipurpose Hall, starting at 4 p.m. while voting for the best nominees will be done via their website https://www.netauganda.com/ .

He noted that proceeds from the sale of tables and VIP cards will be directed towards supporting cancer and other non-communicable disease (NCD) initiatives, as well as establishing a special fund to support traders and entrepreneurs in times of disaster, crisis, or financial distress—including challenges such as failure to meet bank obligations.

“The National Quality Award aims not only to celebrate excellence and innovation across various business sectors but will also be accompanied by a research report capturing the general public’s perspective and feedback on the nominated products and businesses,” Dr. Nagenda said.

NETA–Uganda Secretary General Samuel Kyambadde emphasized that the initiative is designed to support local investors and locally made products under the Buy Uganda, Build Uganda (BUBU) policy. He added that appreciating outstanding businesses will empower local producers and discourage the importation of products already available in Uganda.

Meanwhile, NETA–Uganda has called on the government, through the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), to fast-track compensation for traders affected by recent floods along the Nakivubo Channel to help them recover from the unfortunate incident.

The association further announced that it will extend direct support to political leaders in the upcoming general elections whose manifestos prioritize issues affecting the business community—acknowledging that a thriving business sector is essential to Uganda’s economic stability and growth.
