Museveni Unveils Major Tea, Health, Education and Infrastructure Plans for Bushenyi

By Jumah Kakomo and Kabuye Ronald

National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has announced a series of strategic interventions aimed at transforming key sectors in Bushenyi District, with a particular focus on the tea industry, health services, education, and road infrastructure.

Speaking at the NRM Presidential campaign rally at Kizinda Playgrounds, Gen. Museveni revealed that the government is engaging the Chinese government to secure a direct international market for Uganda’s tea, saying this will boost farmers’ incomes and stabilise the sector. He also guided farmers on proper land utilisation for both small-scale and large-scale production.

Gen. Museveni confirmed that the government plans to upgrade Kyabugimbi Health Centre IV into a District General Hospital, alongside additional health facility improvements across Bushenyi. He highlighted the significant progress registered in the health sector in Greater Bushenyi and pledged further investment to enhance service delivery.

On education, the NRM presidential candidate cited major achievements in Bushenyi’s education sector and assured residents of increased funding to improve school infrastructure and learning outcomes.

In infrastructure development, Gen. Museveni listed several roads earmarked for tarmacking during his next term, including: Bwizibwera–Nyakambu–Nsiika–Nyakashaka–Nyakabirizi Road, Kabwohe–Bugongi–Kitagata Road, and the reconstruction of the Mbarara–Bushenyi Highway, among others.
He noted that Bushenyi has already benefited from various road projects and promised more developments ahead.

Addressing governance and development, Museveni urged leaders and residents to embrace strategic prioritisation in planning for socioeconomic growth. He also promised to investigate corruption allegations involving implementers of the Parish Development Model (PDM) who are accused of soliciting money from beneficiaries.

The NRM candidate further advised farmers on proper enterprise selection under the 4-Acre Model and encouraged residents to fully join the money economy, citing successful wealth-creation examples from across the country. He outlined job opportunities in sectors such as commercial agriculture, artisanship, manufacturing, ICT, and services—areas boosted by the Presidential Industrial Skills Hubs.

Museveni cautioned the people of Bushenyi against actions that could undermine Uganda’s prevailing peace and stability, warning that political and ideological disorientation has led many countries into turmoil. He emphasized that the NRM’s foundation of non-sectarianism and national unity continues to drive Uganda’s development.

First Lady Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni thanked Bushenyi residents for their unwavering support for the NRM and urged them to turn up in large numbers on polling day.

The Bushenyi District NRM Chairperson, Iddi Hassan Basajjabalaba, also presented the district status report during the rally.
