The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has urged the people of Masindi District and communities across the Albertine Graben to look beyond the region’s oil reserves and embrace additional wealth-creation opportunities.
Gen. Museveni noted that Uganda’s oil exploitation programme is time-bound, yet the needs of the population are continuous. He advised residents to strategically position themselves to benefit from the oil economy through ventures such as hospitality, food supply, and other related enterprises.
Speaking during an NRM presidential campaign rally in Masindi District, the President also dismissed claims made by National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi regarding Uganda’s oil programme. He assured communities in the Albertine Graben that the government has put in place robust and progressive interventions to ensure the success of the sector.
During the same rally, Gen. Museveni pledged to provide more tractors to support agricultural mechanisation in Masindi District. He further promised amendments to the Sugar Act to incorporate clauses that protect and promote the interests of sugarcane farmers.
The NRM candidate also announced plans for a ferry on Lake Albert, a SACCO for Masindi leaders, and the inclusion of Masindi Municipality in the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) project. He instructed Prime Minister Robinah Nabanja to follow up on the implementation of these commitments.
