By Robert Segawa

Police in Nsangi are currently investigating a tragic shooting incident that claimed the lives of two individuals, including a passerby, at Buddo Junction, Nakasozi Cell, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District.

The deceased have been identified as Nalumansi Evelyne Zaliya Kilonde Katende, 50, a resident of Mpangala Cell, Kyengera Town Council, and an unidentified individual dressed in UPDF camouflage attire.

According to preliminary reports from the police, the incident occurred last evening when a suspect, whose identity is currently withheld for investigative purposes, alleges he was intercepted and kidnapped earlier in the day by the deceased male in UPDF attire and others who are currently at large. The suspect claims the kidnapping occurred while he was with friends and family in Buwama.

The suspect reported being transferred to a vehicle allegedly belonging to the kidnappers, identified as a silver Toyota Progress with registration number UAK 375U. It was during this journey that the suspect asserts he managed to disarm one of the kidnappers, leading to a shootout at Buddo Junction. Tragically, the exchange of gunfire resulted in the deaths of the alleged kidnapper in UPDF attire and the unintended victim, Nalumansi Evelyne Zaliya.

Both bodies have been transported to the City Mortuary at Mulago for post-mortem examinations. Police have recovered materials of evidential value from the scene, including a pistol, which will assist in ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police detectives are actively pursuing leads to fully uncover the sequence of events that led to this fatal encounter. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue to shed light on the tragic shooting at Buddo Junction.
