Mukono Unites for Youth Empowerment and Peace Ahead of 2026 Elections

By Eric Yiga

As Uganda prepares for the 2026 general elections, a powerful call for unity, development, and youth empowerment resonated through Mukono District during the official launch of the Greater House Mukono Foundation. The event, held at Ssaza Grounds in Ggulu, Mukono Municipality, brought together religious leaders, government officials, and community members in a shared vision to restore Mukono’s former glory and shape a secure future.

The foundation, founded by Pastor Dr. Samuel Lwandasa of Mt. Lebanon Church, aims to drive community transformation through leadership development, peacebuilding, and youth engagement.

Representing the Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Mobilization, Moses Byaruhanga, the Special Presidential Advisor on Women Affairs in Buganda, Josephine Kasaato, delivered a strong message to parents and young people. She urged parents to guide their children toward personal growth and warned against political manipulation that often leads youth into violent protests.

“Young people must avoid being used as tools of unrest. The consequences can be tragic,” Kasaato cautioned.

She also challenged religious communities to strike a balance between faith and practical action.

“Spending all your time praying without taking steps to improve your life dishonours the Kingdom of God,” she said. Kasaato further expressed concern about the rise in poverty, attributing it in part to men abandoning self-improvement and family responsibilities.

Echoing the theme of peace and civic responsibility, Mukono Police Community Liaison Officer, Shafik Kasujja, warned young people against being misled by self-serving politicians. He emphasized the long-term repercussions of political violence, including imprisonment and economic hardship.

He also addressed the issue of vandalism, specifically the theft of electric wires, announcing that police operations are underway to apprehend those responsible.

Pastor Dr. Lwandasa called on the community to reclaim Mukono’s dignity through collective action and partnership with government agencies.

“Our goal is to restore calm and dignity to Mukono’s image by fostering collaboration and maintaining peace in the town,” he stated.

Mukono Resident District Commissioner, Hajjati Fatumah Nabitaka Ndisaba, praised the initiative, describing it as a vital step toward building a brighter future for both Mukono and Uganda.

The event highlighted a powerful convergence of spiritual leadership, civic engagement, and youth-focused development. As the country approaches a critical electoral period, Mukono stands as a symbol of proactive leadership and united community effort in pursuit of peace and progress.
