Museveni Outlines Major Development Priorities for Sheema District in Next Term

By Jumah Kakomo and Kabuye Ronald

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has outlined key service delivery priorities for Sheema District, promising enhanced infrastructure, support to farmers, wealth creation initiatives, and improved social services during his next term of office.

Addressing supporters at the NRM Presidential campaign rally at Kabwohe Playground, General Museveni highlighted plans for major tarmac road works, including the Bwizibwera–Nyakambu–Nsiika–Nyakashaka–Nyakabirizi–Kabwohe–Kitagata road and the reconstruction of the Mbarara–Ishaka road, among others.

General Museveni urged the people of Sheema to hold their leaders accountable and ensure that key development priorities are reflected in district planning processes. He emphasized the need to preserve the prevailing peace and stability, which he said form the foundation of Uganda’s current development achievements.

The NRM flag bearer also reaffirmed government support to farmers, particularly those involved in major cash crops such as tea, coffee, cocoa, and cotton. He noted that special funding will be directed toward boosting yields and integrating more farmers and sectors into the national wealth creation agenda for socioeconomic transformation.

Museveni further elaborated on a range of wealth creation initiatives, urging residents to select enterprises suitable for their available land. He highlighted the importance of understanding the difference between development and wealth creation, encouraging households to prioritize income-generating activities while government accelerates broader development projects.

On health services, Museveni pledged to present the proposal to elevate Kitagata General Hospital to a Regional Referral Hospital for cabinet consideration. He also announced ongoing upgrades of health facilities across Sheema, noting that most subcounties now have Health Centre IIIs and IVs.

The NRM presidential candidate outlined further plans to enhance the education sector and guided residents to learn from successful beneficiaries of government empowerment programs featured in the NRM manifesto. He also listed emerging job opportunity sectors that people in Sheema should embrace.

Museveni projected rapid development upon the start of Uganda’s oil exploitation next year, adding that additional benefits from oil proceeds would support more national growth initiatives.

Meanwhile, the First Lady, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, called on the people of Sheema to engage in household mobilization and turn out in large numbers on polling day to vote for General Museveni and all NRM flag bearers. She delivered this message during the same campaign rally at Kabwohe Playground
