In a stirring address to over 700 students at Lubiri Secondary School, Deputy Commissioner Sylvia Atukwase, representing the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps Office, delivered a resounding call to embrace patriotism as a guiding principle in every aspect of life.

Speaking on behalf of Commissioner Helen Seku and echoing the sentiments of the nation’s leadership, Atukwase emphasized that patriotism in Ugandan schools transcends mere academic instruction but it is a dynamic force that shapes character and fosters unity, resilience, responsibility, integrity, and service.

“Patriotism is not confined to the pages of textbooks or the walls of classrooms,” Atukwase asserted. “It permeates every facet of our existence, from our interactions in the community to our commitment to national causes.”

Highlighting the pivotal role of patriotism in fostering unity amidst Uganda’s diverse cultural landscape, Atukwase underscored its power to bind citizens together, regardless of differences. “It teaches our children that despite our diversity, we are one people with a shared destiny,” she proclaimed.

Drawing upon the rich tapestry of Uganda’s history, Atukwase invoked the legacy of resilience passed down through generations. “The tales of our ancestors’ struggles and triumphs instill in our students the resilience to face challenges,” she remarked. “It reminds you that you are the heirs of a legacy of strength and perseverance.”

Addressing the imperative of responsible citizenship, Atukwase challenged the youth to uphold integrity and contribute positively to the nation’s development. “I challenge you, the youth today, to respect your bodies as the temple of God,” she urged. “Let us strive to avoid early marriages and abstain from behaviors that endanger our health and future.”

Emphasizing the value of service to community and country, Atukwase rallied the students to embrace initiatives such as the recent environmental conservation campaign launched by President Seku. “Our students are encouraged to serve our communities, thereby serving our country,” she affirmed. “Let us embrace efforts to protect Uganda’s beautiful natural heritage.”

In closing, Atukwase reiterated the importance of nurturing a spirit of patriotism, asserting that it is the cornerstone upon which Uganda’s prosperity will be built. “Love, unity, and service are not just slogans—they are the guiding principles that will shape our nation’s future,” she concluded,
