Eight Suspects Arrested Over UGX 242 Million Robbery from Give and Take Hardware

By Robert Segawa

The Territorial Police in Old Kampala Division have apprehended eight suspects in connection with the aggravated robbery of UGX 242 million from the cashier of Give and Take Hardware.

The arrests follow significant progress in the investigation into the violent robbery, which occurred on August 22, 2025, in Kakeeka Zone, Rubaga Division.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, a group of thugs armed with pangas and riding on five motorcycles ambushed Mr. Kisitu Ausi, an accountant at Give and Take Hardware. The suspects violently intercepted him as he was transporting the money to the bank. Fortunately, neither Mr. Kisitu nor his motorcycle rider was injured during the attack.

Through swift, intelligence-led operations, detectives analyzed CCTV footage and other investigative leads, which led to the arrest of the suspects.

The eight individuals arrested and charged are; Bakunda Steven, alias Kevin, Atwine Robert Kiiza, alias Mzee Lubuto, Andebuni Brian, alias Junior Black, Musuza Raymond, alias Caesar, Ssali Andrew, alias Ande Swag, Kanyerezi Stanley, Nsubuga Andrew and Aboth Shivan Alecho (charged as an accessory after the fact)

“During the operations, we recovered UGX 105 million, a motorcycle believed to have been purchased using proceeds from the robbery, and a black laptop bag containing vouchers and receipts from Give and Take Hardware. These items were positively identified by the complainant,” said Owoyesigyire.

The suspects are facing charges of Aggravated Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, and Being Accessories After the Fact to a Felony.

Owoyesigyire added that investigations are ongoing to trace additional accomplices who remain at large.

“We reassure the public that such violent crimes will be thoroughly pursued to their conclusion. We commend our officers for their dedication and the progress already made in this case,” he stated.

All suspects are expected to appear before the Mwanga II Chief Magistrate’s Court today, Thursday, September 11, 2025.
