The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has secured a 49-year prison sentence for Tukwasibwe Junior, a man convicted of trafficking in persons and sexual exploitation.

Tukwasibwe was apprehended earlier by the National Coordination Office for Prevention of Trafficking in Persons and was officially sentenced in June 2025.
According to Derrick Kigenyi Basalirwa, Deputy Coordinator of the National Coordination Office, Tukwasibwe operated an unregistered community-based organization under the pretense of running an orphanage. Investigations revealed that he used the facility to lure and sexually exploit women and girls, claiming he was protecting them.

Basalirwa emphasized that human trafficking is a growing global issue and not confined to Uganda. He urged the public particularly parents, guardians, local leaders, and anti-trafficking activists—to remain vigilant and work together to combat the rising cases of trafficking, both within Uganda and abroad, especially for forced labor.
