Police in Bugweri District have identified the students who were injured in a fatal road crash that claimed the life of a school bus driver and left 15 others injured early Tuesday morning.
The crash involved an Isuzu bus, registration number UA 551ED, and a Mercedes-Benz Actros trailer, registration number UBB 269V, along the Mbale–Iganga Highway at Nawangisa Village in Bugweri District.

According to the Busoga East Regional Police spokesperson, the bus, owned by Amuria High School, had been hired to transport students of St. Paul Secondary School in Katakwi District for a geography study tour.
The deceased has been identified as Kasakya Abdallah, 68, the driver of the bus, who died instantly at the scene.
The injured are:

- Emodit Simon (Senior Three)
- Aanyu Samuel (Senior Three)

- Okurut Silver (Senior Three)
- Alibet Isaac (Senior Four)
- Oila Samuel (Senior Three)
- Okot Timothy (Senior Three)
- Ocen John Mark (Senior Three)
- Nyasurura Perez (Senior Four)
- Oluga George (teacher)
- The bus conductor, whose identity had not yet been established.

Preliminary police investigations indicate that at about 4:45 a.m. on July 14, 2026, the bus was transporting 73 students from Mbale to Kasenyi Landing Site in Entebbe, Wakiso District, for a geography field study. Upon reaching Nawangisa Village, the bus rammed into the rear of a stationary trailer.
Traffic officers led by the Regional Traffic Officer visited and documented the scene. The body of the deceased was taken to Iganga Hospital Mortuary, while the injured were rushed to Iganga General Hospital for treatment.
Both the bus and the trailer were towed to Busembatya Police Station, where they are being held pending mechanical inspection as investigations continue.
Police have urged all road users to observe traffic regulations and exercise extra caution to help prevent road crashes.
