Kabaka unleashes venom on Bataka “Clan heads” on his 31st coronation

By Kabuye Ronald

The Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi has unleashed venom on Battaka (Clan heads) who have been assuming authority over him and his premier Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga.

In his virtual address during the celebration of his 31st Coronation day at St. Paul Cathedral, Namirembe, Kabaka Mutebi made it very clear that he is not elected or appointed by the clan heads nor do they have any authority over him or his appointees like the Katikkiro of Buganda.

“While we have been abroad attending to our doctors and getting medication and treatment, we have been following whatever has been happening. We have been always urging for unity, in order to safe guard and respect our culture, norms and discipline since it’s where the enemy may pass to antagonize us  if we relax in observing them.

The situation we have been through in the past months has led some people unknowingly, knowingly or deliberately to despise and undermine our cultural norms and to misbehave. They have done a lot of things to mislead the public about the happenings in the Buganda kingdom and the throne. This is very dangerous. You must be very conscious and extremely careful with those people.

For the reason above, we want to remind our people that the Kabaka has standard ritual procedures he goes through to be installed as the Kabaka and he is not elected, selected or appointed by the clan heads. It is only a few known clan heads that perform specific rituals and they know themselves and their responsibilities.

Secondly, the Kabaka governs/ rules the Buganda kingdom with the help of his own appointed Katikkiro and Kabaka doesn’t delegate his authority to anybody.

Thirdly, in our culture, Kabaka has the liberty and authority to change known norms or introduce new norms according to the generation trends” said a tough talking Kabaka

Despite thanking the youth and those in the diaspora for the love and obedience to the Kingdom, Kabaka Mutebi urged that it should be done with utmost discipline and respect as it has been from inception.

On the same event, the Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga urged the people of Buganda to remain focused and united despite the various challenges including those trying so hard to divide and weaken the kingdom.

“It is very hard to win many people who are united. There can be some challenges or shaking by the enemies of Buganda but they can never emerge victor over the kingdom.” Said Katikkiro
